If you are taking RSVPs on your wedding website, using the free follow up feature will still only allow you to follow up with people based on the email status (opened the email or not). That is becuase you are taking RSVPs on your wedding website, which is a different product - the website does not "communicate" with the online card.

When you send an email annoucement, you can only follow up with those guests who have not opened the email. Since it's only an email, the only thing you would follow up on is with guests that haven't opened the email (so they do open the email).
